Often caught in similar areas to Black Bream on cleaner and mixed ground, trigger Fish are well known for biting through the trace.
Identification:
This fish has grey coloured leathery skin and a beak-like mouth. They have a large spine and several secondary spines which are locked in place but can be "triggered flat by releasing one of the smaller spines.
Size:
A small average size of around 1lb, the local record being under 4lb.
Season:
This fish is normally captured in the autumn months.
Bait:
Most of the baits used for Bream will work for the Triggerfish. Scallop Frills, Squid or Cuttlefish, and ragworm.
