Mackerel


If you are lucky enough to catch too many to eat Mackerel can make a decent bait.


Identification:

A bony fish with a distinct oily colouring and small scales.

Where to Get It:

Mackerel can be purchased fairly cheaply from fishmongers or frozen from tackle shops but by far the cheapest way is to catch your own. See the section on mackerel for how to catch them.

How to Keep Fresh:

Mackerel can be kept fresh in the fridge or in a cool box and can also be successfully frozen.
